Shore Regional reaches Group 1 Final
Highlights and post-game reaction from the Blue Devils 5-0 win over Pennsville at Monmouth University
Matt Cosentino pitched a 4 hit complete game shutout against a high powered offense and Shore Regional used a two run first inning to spark a 5-0 win over Pennsville in the Group 1 Semifinals at Monmouth University. The Blue Devils opened the scoring with an RBI triple by Andrew Schulz and an RBI single by James Kelly. Cosentino fanned seven and worked out of a 1st and third jam with a strikeout to end the first. It stayed 2-0 all the way until the 6th inning. Shore would load the bases and Matt McCarthy worked a long count into a chopper against a drawn in infield for a two run single to give the Blue Devils a four run cushion. Nick Blaney closed out the scoring with a bloop to shallow right that saw Kelly advance from first to third and eventually home after an errant throw.
Pennsville was ranked 3rd in the Star Ledger Top 20 and dropped to 28-3 on the season. Shore Regional advances to the Group 1 Finals on Saturday in Toms River against the winner of Ridgefield and Dayton. The Blue Devils tough regular season schedule has clearly paid dividends in the post-season. Coach Patrick O’Neill’s team is now 18-9 on the year.
