The closing of Saint Anthony High School in Jersey City has given Shore Conference basketball two top transfers for next season.  After Saviour Akuwovo announced that he will play his senior season at Ranney on May 25, talented guard Alexander Rice will play the next two seasons at Mater Dei Prep.  Seraphs boys basketball coach Ben Gamble confirmed the addition of Rice via his Twitter account:

Alexander’s father, King Rice, is the head men’s basketball coach at Monmouth University and a former standout at the University of North Carolina playing for the legendary coach Dean Smith.  Living in West Long Branch, he traveled to Jersey City to play for Bob Hurley at Saint Anthony.  Coach Gamble was a long time assistant under Hurley at Saint Anthony before moving on to Cardinal McCarrick and Mater Dei.    Rice averaged 11.2 points per game in his sophomore campaign highlighted by a 24 point effort and game winning shot to beat Ranney at Brookdale Community College in the Hoop Group Boardwalk Showcase.   Alexander joins the two time defending Shore Conference boys basketball champions and a deep guard rotation.  Rice will mix in with Kenny Jones, Kyle Cardaci and Yasin Pretlow.
